Cupria Jewelry · Care Guide
Copper behaves differently from most jewelry metals. It doesn’t stay the same forever, but reacts to air, skin, and everyday wear—slowly, visibly, and a little differently for everyone. Wearing solid copper means wearing a material that changes along with you.
Over time, a darker, warm layer forms on the metal—the patina. Some people like this aged tone and let it develop naturally. Others regularly polish their pieces back to a bright copper shine.
Both are right. It’s your jewelry, and you decide how you want it to look. On this page, you’ll find everything you need to do that.
A patina means the piece has been places. That it’s real.

No polish on hand? These methods work too—they just take a little more time and preparation.
Quick and easy. Cut a lemon in half, dip the cut side in coarse salt, and rub it over the piece for 30 to 60 seconds. Rinse with warm water and dry immediately. The citric acid removes discoloration in seconds.
For more stubborn discoloration. Dissolve a teaspoon of salt in a little white vinegar and soak the piece for 15 to 30 minutes. Then rinse thoroughly and dry immediately. No scrubbing needed—the acid does the work.
Especially gentle. Mix baking soda with a little lemon juice to make a soft paste, apply it with a soft cloth or an old toothbrush, and gently work it into engravings. Rinse and dry immediately. Ideal for delicate pieces.
With all three methods: always dry immediately after rinsing. Residual moisture is the most common reason copper darkens again quickly. With the copper polish, there’s no need to rinse at all.
The easiest care tip
Your skin’s natural oils give the metal a little polish every day. A piece of jewelry left in a drawer discolors much faster than one worn every day. Copper rewards those who hardly ever take it off.
Rule of thumb: Take off your copper before swimming or applying anything to your skin. Then simply put it back on afterward.
If a slightly green mark appears under your jewelry, it’s a completely normal reaction between copper and your skin’s natural moisture. It’s harmless and washes off easily with soap and water.
This doesn’t happen with plated imitations—there’s simply no real copper in contact with the skin. So the mark is mainly a sign that you’re wearing solid copper. If you want to avoid it altogether, wear the piece a little looser or take it off briefly when you’re sweating heavily. For most people, the effect goes away on its own after a few weeks.
Moisture is the biggest enemy of a bright copper shine. When you take your piece off, how you store it matters.
Handcrafted, one piece at a time
Small variations in color and finish are part of the charm—no two pieces are ever quite identical. With the right care, yours will stay with you for years.
